Kathina, robe offering signifies the ending of the three months Rainy Retreat (Vassana). This tradition has been passed down since the time of the Buddha. It is a common practice among the countries like Thailand, Burma and Sri Lanka which are under the influence of the Theravada Buddhist tradition.
This ceremony is held once a year at a particular place where the monks observed VAS. At the ceremony, devotees will present saffron robes to the Maha Sangha. By participating, the devotees will devote themselves closer to the Triple Gem (Buddha, Dhamma and Sangha).
As Kathina robe offering is one of the greatest meritorious deeds, therefore, participation in this special event will bless you with wisdom, long life, success and prosperity.
